In a disappointing season for the Baltimore Orioles, 47-58, they have begun the process of selling off their rental players to acquire prospects that can make an impact in the future. The Orioles traded lefty reliever Gregory Soto to the New York Mets for prospects RHP Wellington Aracena #19 and RHP Cameron Foster #Unranked.

I previously mentioned Soto in a previous blog post, and he was one of the more slept-on relievers heading into the deadline. His underlying numbers are very good, and he has a 3.22 FIP (Fielding Independent Pitching). He limits barrels to a 4.2% clip, which is in the 94th percentile according to Statcast. Soto can run his fastball up to 100 mph and boasts a K/9 of 10.85. Despite that, his walk rate is very high at 11%. If the Mets can help him limit walks, he can become one of the better relievers for the rest of the season.
Regarding the prospects the Orioles received in the trade, they got a solid haul for a rental reliever that's a free agent at the end of the season. Wellington Aracena is the headline of the deal, as he's posted a 2.38 ERA (Earned Run Average) in 17 games, 8 starts in Low-A. Cameron Foster was the other piece in the deal, and he's posted a 2.97 ERA in Double-A and Triple-A. While in Double-A, he posted a 1.01 ERA compared to a 17.18 ERA for Triple-A in two games.
