Today the Boston Red Sox signed lefty starter Ranger Suarez to a massive 5-year, $130 million contract. Suarez was one of the top free agent pitchers on the market and has been a dominant starting pitcher for the past four seasons, posting a 3.59 combined ERA. In 2025, he posted a 3.20 ERA along with a 3.21 FIP. He's done this with a six-pitch mix and a 98th percentile hard-hit rate. His best pitch was his curveball, which produced a .192 batting average.

Suarez only walked 5.8% of the batters he faced, along with limiting barrels to a 5.5% clip as well. He's been one of the most effective pitchers at inducing soft contact.

This is a huge get for the Red Sox, who also acquired Sonny Gray via trade. Suarez will be a huge boost to their rotation and is entering his age-30 season next year. He projects to age well over the life of the contract, and the model as a result predicts him to get a 5-year, $134.5 million deal, which is 4.5 million dollars over what he actually received. This contract is considered a slight underpay by the Red Sox, a great value.

Projected- 5-Years, $134.5 million

Actual- 5-Years, $130 million
